I came down with a bad case of mastitis on Tuesday, fever, chills, bodyaches, the works. As soon as Ryan got home from work I got into bed and stayed there for the remainder of the evening. I called a friend to see if she wouldn't mind watching Robert(3) and Ted(1) so that I could stay in bed on Wednesday too.
Ryan got up extra early and made breakfast for all of us, then dropped off the two middle kids on his way to work. I kept Little Ryan(5) with me to entertain the baby and get me things so that I could stay in bed. We were so lonely without Robert and Ted, and bored too! The house was quiet, not just quiet, spooky quiet.
I thought I might enjoy my day of rest, but truth be told I couldn't wait for my husband to get home with my two MISSING children. Little Ryan was a trooper, but I could tell he was miserable as well. When the two little sweeties finally got home they hugged me really tight. They probably didn't miss me as much as I missed them.
I'm so thankful that God hand-picked Robert and Ted especially for MY family. They BELONG here, and I NEED them. I think it is interesting how the role of the mother is always emphasized as being so important, the role of the father too. What about the role of the children? I NEED my children! When one or two of them are not around, I feel a bit lost. I ENJOY my children. Their role in MY life is every bit as important as my role in their's. They sanctify me, daily, hourly, minute by minute.
Thank you God for giving me my children...

My sister and I had the same discussion just yesterday. Her two oldest 17 & 13 are away at camp, the 10 yr old was visiting someone and her 2 yr old was asleep - only she, hubby and 5 yr old ate dinner together. Almost EERIE. No wonder the family is considered a unit. A whole made up of different parts, with God as our center holding us all together. What a blessing our children are. Thank you for sharing. Hope you are feeling better soon. We will lift you up in our prayers.
Hey Ashley! I hope you are feeling better. It is weird when one of the kids is away...the quiet is a very strange thing. It may be easier to have less kids around, but it sure would get boring after a while! I loved the pics Ryan sent out- your kids are so cute! I want to see more of your little princess!

Hey again...just wondering- how did you treat mastitis w/out antibiotics?
melanie
Hi Melanie!
I hope you aren't asking because you have mastitis, it was the pits!
This is what I did. I started by taking 10,000 mg of Vit. C, then I took 3000-5000 every hour after that until I reached bowel tolerance (tmi). I think I ended up taking around 30,000 mg total.
I also took elderberry syrup, 1 tablespoon every 3-4 hours.
I took raw garlic. I cut up a few cloves into pill sized pieces and swallowed them down. I took about four cloves the first day, two the second.
I drank a lot of water.
Each time I nursed I massaged the red and painful areas toward the nipple.
I took a few hot showers and massaged then too.
I tied on a bib apron tightly around my waist and stuck a hot water bottle in the top. This held the hot water bottle right up against the breast and felt very nice.
I stayed in bed for about the first 36 hours, and then got up and did light work.
The breast stayed red until the third day, but by that time there was no more pain or fever.
I took some advil the first night when I was having a fever, chills and aches.
I was feeling a lot better about halfway through the second day.
I'll do my best to get some pictures up of Princess Clara :)
Happy Fourth!
Ashley
